stamp collecting - Which ones to buy?I have been collecting stamps off and on again since I was a boy starting around 1990. In the past few years I have started working towards my collection and gaining information about the value of my stamps.
For some reason first day covers and digital color postmarks have caught my eye lately, so when I purchase new stamps I have been purchasing all three but it can be costly, depending on the stamp.
Stamp collecting is something that I am wanting to pass down to my children when I get older but I would like to know, what holds/gains value over time more; stamp panes, first day covers or digital post marks?

I want to start collecting stamps...?I want to start collecting stamps and I'm wondering what kind of stamps to collect. What I mean by that is not what subject but rather the actual stamp itself. Can I go to the post office and buy a sheet of various stamps or are they more valuable if they come off an envelope?
I have also read that one shouldn't tear off old stamps from and envelope as they could be more valuable remaining on the envelope. I'm a little lost with that as I've never seen envelopes in a stamp collection. And what is considered to be 'old'?
